Heather Sarau 

Generalist Counsellor 

Heather Sarau is a generalist counsellor and has been working on Level 4 at The Gardens Medical Centre for the past three and a half years.

She has an extensive background in secondary education, having been a physical education teacher, assistant principal, and principal in large secondary schools across Victoria. She has a passion for working with young people and families and has a coaching qualification that enables her to facilitate personal growth and positive change for adults, adolescents, and children. 

She is trained in a range of areas, including cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, solution-focused and narrative therapies, grief and loss, work-related stress, and, more recently, family therapy and couples counselling. 

Heather is able to work with children, adolescents, adults (including elderly people ages 8–90), couples, and families. She has a strong focus on improvingonal well-being, mindfulness, and self-care with a focus on values-based behavioural changes. 

Qualifications: Bachelor of Applied Science in Physical Education, Graduate Diploma of Education, Diploma of Counselling, Growth Coaching and completed training in Family Therapy. She is currently studying a Graduate Diploma in Relationship Counselling with the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors.
